I have an 06' E350 and I noticed that the labels for my headlight switch does not illuminate at night. However, the white line on the light switch knob does illuminate. I would like to know if the light bulb for the light switch label is burnt out or was it not designed to illuminate?

The labels are not supposed to be illuminated.

 

Poor design IMO, but I rarely touch it anyway, maybe they did that on purpose. I leave it at AUTO and forget about it.

 

I tend to remember someone posting a photo of the light switch circuit board from an older model that actually had leds to light up the small icons. I interpret it is intentional from MB to leave the lights out. After all, it usually takes 6 months before the owner realises the switch is not light up. Proves to me that the lights are not needed. One can figure out the light switch position blindly pretty accurately and the critical position anyway is "as far to the right as it goes". Perhaps there would be no harm either if the icons were illuminated.

 

IMHO..poor design
