Yes, it's a solar panel that powers a small venting fan. In theory, it's supposed to excavate hot cabin air into atmoshpere while you're parked in the hot sun. In actuality, I don't think it really does much. Kind of like our ventilated seats. They don't do crap, either.

Ventilated Seats only work when the car is running using their own fan off the cars elictrical system (no Solar Panel in my reg Sunroof Car) except if you open the windows with the "Summer Opening Feature" (Smart Key Opening) ...the the Drivers seat is on befire you enter the car.

Speaking about that auto ventalation thing...my 03' E320 had that where you would press "Auto" on the HVAC controls when the car was off, my 07' E350 doesn't do that...

Ya, they don't really work that well. In actuality, it really just drains your battery.
The vented seats aren't that useless. It works alright. I think some cars have better systems cause they are actually air conditioned, not just fans blowing. They only work really well though if you are naked in the car
