MICROPHONE REPLACEMENT?
I've seen a write-up on this, and do not recall the steps as being very difficult.
there is one (maybe two) microphone-related TSB for W220s, so maybe there is one for your W211 and you can get a free replacement
b. Replacement is easy, remove mirror and install new mirror .2hrs labor and $1000 in parts.
It's definitely at a dealer's discretion to repair a known fault without charge, and TSBs arise from known faults. It's quieter, cheaper, and less unpopular and brand-damaging to do such repairs through TSBs
And like I said, the steps involved are not complicated
The individual mic's can be replaced. Warning! the rearview mirror housing is fragile to take a part, but easy to reassemble. Odds are high the small plastic tabs holding the mirror's case together will break while taking it a part.
Ask MBenzNL about how to do this.

The only diagnostic process that I'm aware of, is to use the mics with a cell phone to determine voice quality.
