does no one else buy tires second hand? have had great luck with ebay and craigslist for the occasional temporary set.
edit: oops, the above pertains to my second car which is not as picky about tires
I picked up a set of w211 16" wheels and 2 year old Michelin tires for $160. Then found a set of 16" W140 wheels with Bridgestone blizzaks for $60 because the guy totalled his W210. Those things are awesome in the rain and snow. More recently found a set of W210 wheels with 1 year old Falken summer tires for $145. I put those on my W124.
