Dents in 2009 E350 trunk lid?

I was showing off my car to a couple of friends and I noticed one was standing on the drivers side looking across my trunk with eyes at level of car and the other friend on the passenger side looking across too.

They said there were 2 dents in the trunk lid. I never noticed this but did when they pointed it out to me. The indentations are very subtle but now I know it's there. I wonder if this is normal with all E350 trunk lids?

It is if you park under a tree that drops acorns. I'm not a horticulturist, so I'm not familiar with the SD area.

I read one other person on this board say the same thing. I'm guessing it's probably a manufacturing thing on the assembly line. Maybe that's where the robot holds the trunk lid to position it onto the car for installation?

Just wanted to check if this was the case for all our cars.

I think this may be a wider problem than initially thought. I have two 2009 E350's. On one of them (white), I cannot see any indentations in the trunk lid.

On the other (gray), I can see extremely slight indentations (2 of them, equally spaced from the centerline). However they are so slight that they are only visible from certain angles in bright direct sunlight after waxing/detailing the vehicle... and even then you can't feel or really see the indentation, only that the reflections of objects become very slightly curved/distorted in those areas. I've been driving for the past 5 months without noticing them.

Just for reference, the Gray E350 was assembled in 6/2008 and the White E350 was assembled in 1/2009, (even though I bought both in 5/2009). Perhaps they fixed the issue in later builds? Or perhaps ALL vehicles have them to varying degrees... but it shows up more on darker colors (and not all vehicles have it very serious)?

Mine is black and built in 10/2008. Yeah, I don't know if I would have ever noticed if it wasn't for my 2 friends who seemed to "have to find an issue" when I showed off my new car. Damn them.

I don't think it's a big deal at all but alas, I now know those dents are there.
