Mercedes wheel catalog shows
245/40-18 for front
265/35-18 for rear
This is for AMG wheels designed specifically for W211 E-class. Anything else is a crapshoot and you'll likely lose. This information should be in your owners manual. You can also enter your car information at tirerack.com to verify sizes. Prior owner may have installed smaller tires because wheel catalog indicates "modification of bodywork necessary" for these sizes.

255/35-18 for the rear would work in you opinion
