What is this part???

Does someone know what this is? After I removed my left side trunk panel to install my nav drive this was hanging down. It has some double sided tape on it so I stuck it back at a plain surface in near the back lights.

I like a goody mystery...and a good Google. These BMW folk seem to think it might be a LoJack unit:

Seeing as how it's on a MB and a BMW, they might very well be right.

I didn't see one but my GF said she saw that before and believes that it really is the LoJack. But this would be f+++++ up. Easy to get location, one whack and it is ripped out and thrown away.
