e350 4Matic
Okay, I have some more wheel questions...

First of all I want to thank everyone who replied to my questions a couple weeks a go - I appreciate it.

I have a 2007 E350 4Matic and I would like to swap my standard sport wheels for a set of 2009 AMG sport wheels. That said I can't find "used" a set off a 4Matic, I can find a set of staggered wheels off a rear drive car... now heres the question. As long as the wheels, tires and offsets on the front are the same, as well as the rear offset being the same... does it really matter if the rear wheels are a 1/2 inch wider?

Any help or clarification would be appreciated.

Thanks again!

yes it does, apparently the 4matic system doesnt like having staggered rims. when i first bought my car i had staggered CLS rims that where 8.5 in the front and 9.5 in the back. i really didnt notice a difference until the 4matic system handled in the snow. so i just sold the 2 rear wheels and bought 8.5's for the back. It wasnt that bad, but i wanted everything to right so i just got it changed.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

i dont think it's patently true that 4matic will not work with staggered rims.
MB has released at least one configuration in 4m/staggered. it is more likely
the issue of calibration and being designed with staggered shoes that is the
key.

in straight line, 4matic doesn't care as long as the revs/mile (circumference)
of front and rear are within tolerence....though in my mind, there may be
issues when in making turns.
