LI-NYC Mercedes Service Specials

I just got an email from a local Mercedes dealer that has some nice service specials -- oil change for $99.95. I used their "Saturday Special" oil change coupon last year for a $89.95 oil change, and got my NYS inspection done for another $10! Hard to beat that.

Go to link below.

Or you could have them change the oil and the dust filter (assuming this is not an easy DIY) and do the rest of the items on the Service B yourself. An oil change with the special is $99, but Service B is nearly $300 more at the same dealership. All the other items on the list can be done by any of us in 15 minutes, with the exception of perhaps the dust filter. I wonder what the customary charge is for changing the dust filter -- anyone?

Here's what you get in a Service B:

Change your vehicle's engine oil and filter
Replace the dust filter
Inspect windshield wiper inserts
Inspect and rotate tires
Lubricate and inspect throttle linkage
Ensure the parking brake, steering play, headlamps and exterior lamps, warning and indicator lamps, horn, windshield/headlamp wiper and washer systems, seat belts, and backrest lock (S-Class only) are functioning correctly
Inspect tires and check tire pressure (including spare)
Inspect brake pad thickness and disk condition
Inspect front axle ball joints and Poly-V-belt
Check and correct all fluid levels
Reset your vehicle's FSS counter

You don't actually get too much there for the money. That type of "Inspect and Check" garbage is good for your typical ignorant :...as long as it starts, I go..." idiot, but people who love cars don't need any of it... we do it all the time. I DO think however, that for that kind of dough it should include replacing the pair of wiper blades. (In Ft Lauderdale, they charged my Dad on his W210 $28 for the one blade & $28 bucks to install it !!! "Install" it ?!? !!! )

On second thought, I bet most of the non-enthusiast MB owners in the States, don't look at the car at all except once a year when the service countdown indicator appears... but still, outside of the oil change they're not really doing anything for the money. I rationalize it by saying that most car owners would spend that amount over the year on multiple oil changes & other services, while I get hit only once.
