Mercedes Benz 2006 E350 Break Pads
I have a Mercedes 2006 E350. The break wear light is on. I bought the pads. My friend is a mechanic and wants to change it. However, someone told him that the computer has to be shut off first otherwise it locks the breaks. Is that true? It does not make much sense to me but I thought I ask just in case.

The older W211 has an electric pump that pressureizes the brake lines. Not sure what MY it was deleted. If you see an aluminum box in the engine bay with numerous steel lines connected to it (passenger side, near the radiator) you need to be cautious. It can and will start without warning. Search this forum. There is a wealth of information on how to do this properly.
If you do not have the pump, the brakes are pretty much like any other vehicle. You will need to handle the sensors carefully, they are somewhat fragile.

You need to replace the sensor as well since it's tripped. As far as I know, there's no special procedure in doing any electronic work to replace the pads and sensor. I just simply replaced them in my 04 E500. The computer resets the brake light (after starting the car) once the new sensor is put in.
