Oil change procedure in CDI : is this an OK way to go?
Okay, bear with me, I'm fishing for opinions on this train of thought.
I have an 05 CDI, would this be the most practical way to change the oil:
Buy this:
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=46149
Break open the the use-once faux dipstick tube cap.
Suck oil out of the faux dipstick tube with the pneumatic tool linked above.
Take off old oil filter.
Put on new oil filter (prime?).
Put new oil in through oil cap, volume of used oil taken out to determine how much new oil to put in.
Replace the use-once faux dipstick tube cap.
Profit.
Does this sound correct, or is it the “Mercedes-Benz” way to drain from the sump plug?

It's about it, but why wouldn't you own the service DVD which details all the procedures?

It is DEFINITELY the Mercedes way to vacuum oil via dipstick tube.
New filter comes with new o-rings, which you of course use. 25 nm torque on the cap.

I was asking primarily for the 'sucking' it method (controversy I've been told) and whether or not that contraption I linked to would be ok to use.
Thanks for the feedback Kent.

OK, last time I'll bother you folks on this topic (probably), I found the mobil 1 supersyn readily available locally, so my only other question is this:
Is this filter kit the proper one we need for the diesel? It is supposed to be cotton correct?

Thanks again!

It's not just any Mobil 1 of course, but Mobil 1 with either MB229.5 or 229.51 PRINTED on the bottle.
This means 0W-40 European Formula or 5W-40 Formula M ESP ONLY.

I have an 05 CDI as well. I am using an ELF oil out of Europe. it's called Total now. Quartz INEO MC3 5W-30 Meets all the necessary spec. I mail order at $6.00 per liter here locally in Chicago area.

Great thanks (turns out that germanautoparts.com also carries the total oil). But I have a question, for 229.5 should we be using TOTAL Quartz Energy 9000 5W40 or TOTAL Quartz INEO MC3 5W30?

I think the quartz INEO MC3 is a newer blend that should comply to both the I6 CDI and the V6 CDI. one appears to be a 2004 version the other 2007

changeing the CDI oil
I am a big do it your selfer on oil changes have 5 vehicles to maintain. Did my CDI once and that was enough. Oil is like ink and really is a mess to deal with. Stains concrete. Taking the plastic pans off is also a PIA. Ramps work but mine are low so a jack would be better but there is no decent place to put jackstands.
So now I buy the stuff and have a local guy do it for me just on my CDI
