Anyone ever have this problem....when I drive off and stop at a light and have my foot on the brake, I hear this tapping sound coming from the rear (sounds like its coming from the trunk area, although nothing is lose in the trunk). The tapping sound is not constant. It will tap for 1 sec and go away and might tap again, but its so annoying and I dont know if its the brakes or transmission?
Purge control valve to charcoal filter located right side trunk may need replacement part # 0004704993 (for comparison shopping, parts.com $87.40). Check with dealer to see if emissions warranty will cover replacement.
i have the same problem.. its extremely annoying i agree. its even worse if u sit in the back..
i rkn the carbon canister is useless (it only gets rid of some vapour) so im thinking of disconnecting the solonoid. im jus worried that it may cause further problems?
No, I don't have airmatic and I took the car in to the dealer since I have an extended warranty. I asked about that purge valve and said it was not that. They stated that the noise is part of the emissions and is normal. I double checked with them and they swear its a normal emission sound. If this was the case, wouldn't all E350 owners be complaining about this annoying tapping sound? I might need to get a second opinion.

Valve installed at production is part # 0004704993 and is now replaced with 0004707193 have them confirm current part is installed. If you want VIN specific documentation to present, PM email address & VIN.

hmm yea my dealer said that the noise is normal and is to do with the variable fuel pump.. but my thoughts exactly on other owners cpmplaining about the noise - i didnt find anything (ive got a w204 c200k btw). i then took it to another dealer and the manager told me to start the car, open the hood and he located the carbon canister. i held it and felt the same sort of tapping that comes from the back. i got it repalced under warranty. i must admit the noise has died down a little but its still EXTREMELY ANNOYING!!
so im gonna try and remove it this w.end.. thats if i can find some sort of DIY for doing so. that little canister jus stops fumes from escaping.. i can handle fumes, but tapping sounds during driving - ARRRGGHH!!
