EPC shows 1157A (two filament amber bulb) OEM part # 600000000007 (for comparison shopping, parts. com $1.84), side marker 600000000000 (1.61).

OLD thread but can a single filament bulb be used instead?

I really am starting to dislike the egg yoke look in the headlight. I see Mercedes has this bulb:
https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/000000008145.htm?pn=000000-008145-MBZ&SVSVSI=W211

Pelican Parts lists it compatible with the below.
E320 (2003-05), E320 4Matic (2004-05)
E320 Bluetec, E550, E550 4Matic and E63 AMG (2007-09), E320 CDI (2005-06)
E350 and E350 4Matic (2006-09), E500 4Matic (2004-06)
E500 and E55 AMG (2003-06),

*EDIT: These will NOT work. I just pulled the socket for the bulb and mine are not like this at all. They are a flat square type base.

Thanks,
-Nigel

Because of crazy USA regulations, the normal bulb fitted elsewhere (PY21W) is replaced on USA models with a different socket and the bulb indicated above. That bulb you'll very likely need to source from a Mercedes dealer. This is because the PY21W is not quite the acceptable shade or orange.

The USA parts system, however, can sell you the socket (bulb holder) for the PY21W bulb and that's what I've done on several W211 as well as my X164. Then you can use the silver-coated versions if you wish.

The socket part number is 001 826 19 82 for W211. It fits your headlight unit no problem.

Hmm very interesting.

I took pictures of what I have. This bulb looks identical to the 3157 type dual filament bulbs. Yet the 3547a can't be found online anywhere for some reason...

So by going with the above adaptor that you listed for the part number, I can then use a 1157 bulb right?

Thanks,
-Nigel

Is there any way you can take a picture of the socket by chance? I am now wondering do I get a single contact bulb or a two contact bulb for that socket?

The Mercedes socket I posted uses PY21W ... Germans are very careful and by offsetting the pins it's not possible to mix clear and orange bulbs. PY21W are available at PepBoys, etc. 1157. etc., are not bulb numbers applicable to German cars.

Appreciate the info, I wasn't careful enough looking at the offset pins. It looked identical to me to the 1156 until you pointed that you! Thank you. I ordered the new sockets. And order amber canbus leds... They are a lot easier to find than the silly bulb that we get in the USA. I can post an update once everything comes in and hopefully works/doesn't throw any errors or hyper flash.

Pics of the PY21W socket that lkchris recommended:

Kent,

Wnated to thank you for your informative post! I purchased and received the above part number/bulb holders that you recommended to replace the stupid 3457 bulbs/holders. I purchased the above primzmatic bulb (oem) online and it gives a much nicer look to the front end. No more is the ugly orange egg yoke. It's slightly orange still but nothing like what it was. Lights up orange just as before so really not sure why we don't get this here in the USA, PLUS these bulbs are much easier to find!

See pictures before and after. Love the look! I will note I tried canbus error free bulbs and they did not work at all in the w211. In our w209 I was able to replace the front turn signals to leds and it worked fine but this not so much.. That's ok, I'm happy with the bulb compared to what was in there.

Before: Orange yoke:

After new bulb and bulb holder.

Thank you,
-Nigel

I have 2009 E550 I picked up at the factory in Germany. I don't remember changing the left front directional turn signal bulb. I picked up two bulbs from the dealer Part Number 600000-000007. The bulbs were orange color and the were round. The bulbs didn't fit. My shop did not have a bulb in stock he borrowed one from a shop next door. The bulb he borrowed was like the second one in the picture with the plug in tab. The old bulb was manufactured by Sylvania Number 3457A 0609 1028A7.
The Signal Lamp Bulb 000000-003138 is recommended for later model years. The dealer does sell Signal Lamp Bulb 000000-003138 for $20.00.

Don't doubt what some may have found in their vehicles but here is what EPC shows for 2009 E550 OEM (current bulb part # 000000008145) and socket.

TURN SIGNAL BULB

I must have had the bulb changed before. The dealer gave me part number 60000-000007 bulb not shown in my pictures a screw in type bulb. The shop removed the plugged in typed bulb shown in the pictured manufactured by Sylvania. I returned to the dealer who gave me a refund for the original purchase. The dealer had the Signal Lamp Bulb for my 2009 E550 Part Number 000000-003138 in stock. When I search other websites and enter the year with the Part Number 000000-003138 for 2009 E550 the part number is shown as incorrect. If I take out the year of the vehicle the part number will be listed.
