2007 E350 Iphone, Subwolfer Question

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and thought you guys might help me with a couple questions.

I have the 2007 Command System with the Key Less Go feature if it matters. I am trying to figure out the best way to hook up my Iphone and Ipod through the car's speakers to listen to music and talk on the phone.

I was told by a few people that I need to get some kind of adapter but I am just not sure exactly what I need to get. Or if it would be possible to update the command unit to a newer 2010 version.

Which ever is the easiest way, or less expensive is what I would actually do I am guessing. I just don't really know the best way to go about it all.

Also I was looking at beefing up the subs with some aftermarket JL's or something along those lines. Do you guys know the options for that? I figured someone on here had already been through all that and could help me out.

Thanks for any help.

hey welcome man. i also have an 07 e350. when i first bought my car at the Mercedes Dealer, Certified Pre Owned, i lowered the price, and everything was ready to go, but then i told them im not going to buy the vehicle unless they throw in the Factory iPod Integration Kit. I guess its a module that they install i think price on it is like $850 or $950, which i got them to throw on the order due bill so it was free for me. I hook up my iPhone/iPod in the glove box and leave it there, and then i can control the music thats playing on the steering wheel.

To talk on the phone, i have yet to try that honestly, i usually have my iPod in the glovebox for music and my iPhone sitting in the center console.

One thing to remember, they installed my iPod integ. kit about a month or two ago, and i noticed it would play the music but it would not charge my iPhone or my iPod, so my batteries on the iPod would die, i recently took it in to the dealership for an ESP Inoperative thing, and they gave me a loaner C Class which i noticed was charging my iPhone, and playing music. so i took it to them and told them the situation and they updated the Cable to a newer one, and it finally charges my iPhone and iPod. no need for a car charger anymore too!

so, 1. iPod integration kit, either from dealer or go to a car audio place, but the car audio place might not update anything if it gets outdated, i.e. my cable which was "old" the dealer updated the cable for free. cause it was under warranty.

2. i have not the slightest clue on these vehicles with the Subs man, im looking into it myself so im gonna be watching this thread also. im really good with car audio myself, but im scared ****less to touch this car.

Fin2222,

Sir, what is needed is the bluetooth interface module from Mercedes, that allows you to connect your phone to the car. Without this interface module, using the car's microphones and speakers, would be impossible. This is the only way to use bluetooth in your model year Mercedes. Later for 2009-2010, Mercedes integrated bluetooth into their vehicles, so no interface module is needed. This module cost in the neighborhood of $400, you might be able to acquire one thru eBay. If you know someone in the parts department, maybe they can get you one at dealer cost. Good Luck

Thanks a bunch for all the responses. I will try and pick up one of the blue tooth modules on ebay, and try to figure out how to get a hold of an aux jack for my glove box. Thanks again.

You might be able to pick up a bluetooth puck from someone on this board....check the mobile electronics section.

As far as the aux jack in the glovebox there may already be one there.

I was looking around on the internet and saw this http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?productid=14298

Anyone have any experience with those? Seems like it would do the phone, Ipod, and even a portable hard drive.

I feel a little stupid about not knowing there was already a jack for the aux cable to plug in, in the top part of my glovebox. I just stuck my iPhone in it, hit aux on my command unit and was able to listen to my iPod feature as well as Pandora. Just figured I would post this to say thanks and help anyone else that reads this that is having the same problem.

It was kinda sneaky in there though, if you don't look at the ceiling of the glovebox you won't see it. It won't charge the phone but I assume I just need a newer cable.

Thanks

no, a newer cable won't charge it, unles you have the ipod integration kit, and the updated cable to ipod then it will play and charge your phone.

Glad you found it...it is pretty hidden up there. It won't charge. You need a cigarette lighter adapter to charge it. Plug the bottom into your power plug and the top into the aux jack. It makes for a bit of a mess of wiring. Some people have run the aux cable through their ashtray which makes it a bit neater but unless you want to invest in the integration kit then it is what it is. Which doesn't bother me that much.

Glad it worked out for you...

Thanks for the idea about running the aux cable through the ashtray, I'll probably do that. I had a power cable, the aux cable sticking out of the glove box, and a radar detector all switching out on a long drive today, got to be a bit of a mess...

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. We were shopping for some sort of adapter kit that wouldn't cost us an arm & leg when we found your post. Had looked on both sides of the glove box, felt all around the CD changer, looked in the trunk, etc. Never looked at the top of the glove box. Extra wires in the car don't bother us - we have coax & cat5 running all over the house.

Thanks again.

AUX Cord is def the cheapest...I use that with my Blackberry and stream Pandora or loaded music on my phone...

It does stink though when you have to leave it open or completely close the glove box when your phone is in there....

I have both plugs in my car, it charges the ipod, but not the iphone. Do I need an updated cable? I have an 09" too!
