Shifted to "R" and car didn't move??

So I started up the car yesterday as usual. Shifted the gear to “R” and trying to back up. The car didn’t want to move so I try it with a little gas. It felt like something is stuck underneath the tire so I went to check and nothing was blocking all four tires. I tried again but no luck. I shifted to “D” and the car could move forward. Then I shifted back to “R” with more gas. The car hesitated for a little then there was this bang noise. It sounded like something is snapped. Nonetheless, the car can move backward and forward now. I am afraid to drive it now. I washed the car the day before and didn’t drive it since. Could it be the rust build up on the rotors?? I highly doubt it.
Talked to my tech last night and he wasn’t sure about this. All he could think of was the SBC brakes? I was thinking if it has anything to do with the gearbox/transmission/transfer case? I have a 2005 E500 4Matic. I don’t know![Confused](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)
Please let me know if any of you guys have heard or experienced this. Thanks a lot!

I recently got the extended warranty, so before 100k miles comes, they'll likely be replacing the entire thing for an approximate $9,000.

Speak with the shop foreman and "suggest" they flash and SCN code the transmission control unit (TCU) then reset adaptation for the reverse clutch.

Ok, it happened again yesterday. Same symptom. Is this like an annual thing?
Seriously, anyone has experienced this before?

I would have a dealer look it over fully, scan for codes (active or dormant), change the transfer case oil (it's cheap). At least get it documented at a dealer in case it leads to something worse. Good luck!
