Convenience Functions Temporarily Unavailable
Hi, I had some problems over last year with electrical power in my 2006 e350 4matic. The HUD would display "Convenience Functions Temporarily Unavailable", and would then shut down the radio, seat heaters, ABS, traction control, etc.
I brought my car to Feldmann imports in Bloomington MN, and the first visit they updated the firmware in the BCM. Total cost: 120.00.
A few days later, the problem started again, and they then ran a voltage drop test from the main Bat cable in trunk all the way to the alternator, where they found a 2.5V drop. They found the junction block under the Pass side false floor had a loose nut that secures the main batt cable at lug. Cleaned, tightened, and the car has been tip top since the work was done in early December '09. Total cost for return visit: $0
I'm posting this because my searching led me to other forum posters here and on Benzworld.org that said they replaced alt, bat, bcm, etc and still had problems (and spent thousands!). If you are reading this, I hope your problem is as simple as mine was.
GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for putting it in the right forum.
No thanks for the sarcasm. I spent hours searching your forum for something useful, thought I would be a good samaritain by posting the "loose nut" fix.
