The End...

so I was unable to maintain my E350 outside of warranty & esp unresolved electrical issues ... traded my beloved car in for an 07 lexus hybrid RX400h got 5 yrs ext warranty, has an amazin nav & audio sys compared to my benz but doesn't have that 'thing' the benz had..

Just wanna say special thanks to Vettdvr, paulv, konigstiger, diesel_benz for helping me out whenever I needed it - These ppl are an asset to this website

I wont be here as much as I used to be - I just want to tell everyone NOT to let their warranties expire ... your car WILL need the stealer at some point past 50k mark, dont let them rip you off-

Goodluck folks!

Wow that is too bad.
Did you consider an aftermarket warranty vs. purchasing a Lexus?

I hope you stick around...there's plenty of people with non-MBs here

An RX400h?

That's quite the switch.

Why not trade for something more like the E...like a G37 or Infiniti M series that would be fun sedans, but very reliable?

The RX is a nice SUV, probably the best, but it is a barge to drive in comparison to any of the others mentioned. I think you wasted money on the extended warranty, too. My wife has an early 2004 and we bought the extended warranty and used it exactly zero times before it expired. Lexi are mostly pretty boring cars to drive, but that boredom extends to repairs as well.

007_E350, sorry to hear that. It was a pleasure helping you and best wishes with your RX400.

Well I knew the following repairs were coming my way:
- Exhaust leak
- CV boots
- front lower control arm bushings
- front SAM replacement (to fix current leakages - could be more than just SAM..)
and then the CPS etc...

After market quoted around 4600 bucks & yet wont cover everything...

2006 E500
E500 problems

I have a 2006 E500 with just 32,000 miles on it (now out of warranty) and have had to replace the brakes and now replace the voltage regulator and the battery to the tune of close to $1000. Lost all ability to drive 2 Saturdays ago when the electrical system failed. Had to have the car towed. Mercedes won't stand behind it. I am livid that a $60,000 car with only 32,000 could have these problems. I've always been a Benz person but the latest models are "junk." Shouldn't have to purchase an additional maintenance agreement with a car like this. I'm absolutely disgusted! I had a new Mercury Cougar in 1994 and it is still running altho' things have been replaced including the tranny but that only cost me $2400 and the fuel pump - about $400. But that car has close to 200,000 miles on it and still runs good. My son drives it. I relish the old days when you could buy a car with stick shift, staight gas engine and no frills. Mercedes engineering should be ashamed!

Sorry to hear that you're leaving us. Didn't you spend the whole day replacing the alternator? I thought if you spent that much time with the car, you would have already fallen in love with it and won't part "till death do us apart".
Some electrical issues are a pain especially in modern MBs, and there's not a whole lot of information out there. Mechanical parts tend to wear out faster in these high performance cars than non-performance cars. To keep them past the 100k mi mark, you either need to be a pretty good DIYer or own a gold mine.

sorry to hear about the E.

The RX is good looking car IMO. I just don't like how they changed the style recently (wish they kept the old style).

yeah I did replace the alternator, put both batteries but the darn thing would not resolve .... I'd drive around with the low voltage conv features disabled sign, sometimes Battery/Alternator Stop Car sign & just pee in my pants that SBC could fail if batteries gave up ... after juggling my head for a month, and dealer quotes ... it was just wise to call it a day
I do miss my car though... one good thing was Oil replacement every 5k -- my engine literally used to 'whistle' around city driving... this one just shuts off...

2006 E320 CDI
RX's

Women love these things. My wife is crazy about her RX330 even though, other than the comfort and reliability, I just don't get it. It's like a living room couch on wheels. Maybe that is it, a reliable mobile living room couch is not really a bad thing.

I bought an E320 CDI last year (for the diesel) somewhat against my better judgement. If it turns out to be unreliable, like you, I will get rid of it and never buy another MB. Even used the things are pricey and have no business being anything other than very reliable.

Bought an aftermarket "Total Care" from the MB dealer for $3K.
It covers 36 months and 36,000 miles.

i said the same thing. barely anyone knows about the SBC issues. a little ironic how all this toyota stuff comes out AFTER GM is owned by the government.
