Direct wire a Passport 8500

I lease a E500 and want to direct wire the unit without causing a problem on turn-in. Has any one done this and if so could you share the wiring details.

Thanks

i have the 8500 in two cars, and although it's not direct wiring, it's close. the smart cord can be extended using a standard phone line. All you need is a phone line extension adapter to do it. Then you can run the wiring along the pillar and top of windshield (if on top). The attachment can be set close to the cigarette adapter, so you can easily attach and detach the smartcord while not buying any extras, and also allowing the use of the mute button.

There is no degredation of performance, except that if you use really long phone wire, then the voltage display on the 8500 will indicate a lower voltage than actual. This is probably due to the signal drop from the length of the wire.
