E270 Transmission problem

Hello there

i have an e270i 2003 (w211) that i bought a year ago. When i bought it has 123 000 KM and now has around 150000. week ago i faced with a serious problem. when it starts you can drive aroud 1km without problem after that thec ar stops and dont move anymore. You have to turn it of and wait fohw rile then to starts engine to move again for a bit.I send to three serivices, one of them authorized serviced and same asnwer CHANGE THE GEARBOX. One of them offered me the used gearbox that belonged to e270 2001 (w210).I am a bit concern about compatibility of w210 gearbox with w211 gearbox. Please advise me if w210 gearbox will work on w211.
Waitng on you instruction

Best Regards
Avni Shehu

Where are you located? Bring it to another shop and have the fault code scanned. Other people reported similar problem and could be related to the speed sensor or the transmission control module.

In Germany I often heard of gearbox-problems of early 211 with 5-gear automatic gearbox. There is a cooler from valeo that sometimes goes defective and then the gearbox-oil is mixed with the cooling fluid.

Go to MB and let them check the gearbox for any errorcodes and they should make a test for glycol in the gearbox-oil.

I am not sure if the 210-gearbox is compatible to the engine in the 211. Maybe the mechanical part can be reused, but the electronic ??? CAN-communication, pinout, ... I don't know.

regards
Cosinus
