2004 E320 Wagon 48,000 miles
A brake warning light came on last Friday & took car into dealer who said it was a sensor which they turned off.
Car is due for next service in August or another 4,000 miles however they also reported after checking the car (which had been in for Service B last August at 40,000 miles) & reported the following:
25% left on front pads & rotors - $605
Wear & tear on left front boot grip strut - $565
Transmission mount collapsed - $145
And the biggie -
Rear main seal leaking oil - $1,300
Plus wear on rear tires (post to follow separately on this)
Was told to wait & do pads/rotors when we bring in for Service A in August.
Was told that boot grip strut could wait until it started making noise that bothered us & that we really didn't need to do anything about transmission mount.
Was also told that as long as oil warning light didn't come that we did not have to do anything as this would be a major job as transmission needed to be taken out. Should we be doing anything else preventative?
So, my questions to this esteemed group are (as car is out of warranty & we do not have an extended warranty):
Are the above consistent or normal with a car that is driven less than 1,000 miles a month?
Would have all developed since car was in for service 8 months ago?
Do repair estimates sound about right?
I know the pads/rotors are a must do on next service but what about other items?
There is also a pretty good independent MB service shop - would their prices likely be less than dealer?
Aside from getting loaner car & the Star discount on parts from this dealer, any strong reasons to have dealer continue to do work if independent is more cost effective?
Thanks.
