New to MB - Looking at 2006 E350 4MATIC
Always had Volvos and went in to check out an S80 and really didn't like it. I think they just don't make them like my S70 GLT anymore.
So the dealer has an '06 E350 4MATIC he thought I should drive. WoW! The car is really nice riding and seems to be made for my body - I just fit, simple.
Car has 48000 miles and I guess the factory warranty is over.
Should I have concerns about buying a non-CPO e350 from this model year?
I like a sporty ride, what other models should I be looking at in the used $20-27k range?
Thanks
Mike

Hey Mike,
If you can, I would try to save a couple more thousand and get a lower mileage CPO. At least you will have peace of mind for a couple years...I bought my 07 CPO Last summer and it has been great.

Stay away from that car for sure. All 2006 and early 2007 models have an issue where the teeth on the balance shaft(V6) or gear(V8) wears down to the point that the check engine light will come on and stay on. Many of these cars have already been repaired under warranty but we see more customer pay ones all the time now. In the case of the V6 the repair involves completely removing the engine and tearing down the front of it to replace the shaft. It's about 30 hours of labor and would run you about 6 grand to repair with no warranty.

Woah, get out! I had no idea, that's very concerning even WITH a warranty! So somehow I should determine if a 2007 is a later 2007 model versus early or go for a 2008 I guess, if I can swing the $.
Glad I stopped by here to do some research.
Is that why you drive Hondas?! We are actually "done" with Honda, the two Odyssey's we've had have been nothing but trouble.

Seems like it's more than just the 350's no? Is it mileage related?

2015 E350 4matic Sport and 2011 C300 4matic sport
How much ar they asking for the car? I bought a 2006 350 4matic a year ago from a Volvo dearler for $24,000 with 38,000 miles on it. In fact I knew the dealer pretty well having bought about 6 Volvos from him and I asked him to find the car for me at auction which he did. At thtimeit was betwee $6-9,000 less that one from the dealer with CPO. I have not paid for anything for this car except a front wheel bearing a couple of months ago that cost around $400...I now have 66,000 miles on the car.
There are plenty of 2006 350's out there and they seem to be running fine.
