Is there something I'm missing? My '07 R500 plays a MP3 cd and it shows a button called "Folder" in the upper left. I put the same CD into my '07 E550 and the screen in the upper left only says "Magazine" and takes me back to the cd changer menu.

Different engineering teams worked on the E Class's Single slot & changer CD drives. The way they work/display Tracks/Titles-Artists/Folders is different from each other. Also, different manufacturers supply radios/CD drives/NAVS for different lines within MB and within the same car. MBs electronics standardizations are a mess. (Ever notice how UPS's trucks all look the same no matter who built them? That's because UPS requires the different chassis/body builders to all adhere to the same design specs.)

I guess they assume you'll never be in a different MB other than your own, or use the same CD in both drives in your E Class. Intuitive interfaces??? LOL ...until you start thinking like them. Then some kind of "Alternate Universe" logic seems to appear... but the Germans can give you 10 reasons why their way is better.

 

E-class has Harman-Becker COMAND

R-class has Alpine COMAND

 

And that's in the single CD player for both vehicles?

 

That turned out to be the issue.

I put it in my single load slot and the "Folder" showed up. I tried the cd changed on both and the "Folder" button doesn't show, only the "Magazine" button.
