shims question

shims question

i have an 04 e320 nonsport. i recently brought eibach spring and was wondering if i need shims for this procedure?

You car should come with shims already. They let you fine tune your drop height with different thicknesses. Some models with bigger engines come with thicker ones to support the weight. You could find out what # (thickness) shim your comes with and determine if you want to switch them for thinner or thicker pads (shims).

It depends on what your going for. My 209 from factory came with #2 pads and I recently switched to #1 to make it a bit lower. This was after I had the springs on for a while. Below I listed the different thicknesses. I guess if I were you I would find some pics of other 211's with Eibach's and decide if you like it that way or want to go a bit higher or lower.

#1 5mm
#2 9mm
#3 13mm
#4 17mm

thanks dyno, i also have another question. if i do lower the car, will that control arm in front rub the tires cause it seems like the arms is about three inches on top of the tires

Don't know 100% because it's model specific. Maybe a 211 guy could chime in here. I doubt you would have problems though.
