Factory installed iPod integration kit

2008 E350, I’ve had it for about four months and it came with the factory option for the iPod. I've noticed that it doesn't charge the iPod. Is this correct?? It's a nuisance if it won't charge the iPod... too much of a hassle for me to deal with if that's the case.... please, say it isn't so...

It depends on how old the ipod is. Older versions will charge whereas newer ones won't because Apple changed the voltage requirements.
My wife's Nano charges but my daughter's iTouch doesn't.

Some people have had success asking the dealer to switch to the newer one for free.

You'll need an adapter to charge newer iPods.

See here: http://www.scosche.com/products/productID/1667

I was able to get mine on ebay for $15 shipped and it works great.

I have the newest classic (5th or 6th generation, whatever they're at now) that I purchased specifically to leave in the glove box. Charges great. I also have 2nd generation Touch, which charges as well.

I have an old broken Nano (my wife put it thru the laundry). It only works plugged in; battery won't charge or run it. That's the one we leave in the W211....works great!

New E350 owner here...

Does everyone leave their iPod plugged in overnight? I have been unplugging it out of fear of draining the battery. Am I being over-zealous?

Thanks.

Mine is in for as long as I had em (about 1 year now). Nothing happens at all to your battery.

Described in DTB S-B-82.60/643a

IF your iPod interface kit was part number ...

B6 782 2890
B6 782 4239
B6 782 4246
B6 782 4253
B6 782 4254
B6 782 4258
B6 782 4084

... then replace cable with B6 782 4531.

My version of this DTB is as of Jan 14, 2009, and perhaps there is now more information.

Since this is a change from Apple, Mercedes considers this a "customer pay" fix.

$36.80 for this on the wonderful parts.com (take out the first letter and spaces in the part # when searching).

I think any iPod/iPhone made after 2009 doesn't work without a cable change

They work, but they can't be charged!
