What to do? What to do?

Ok so, im looking at buying a used 2008 E-350 but im having trouble.

-2008 E350 28,000 miles. P1, Pano, AMG appearance package and 4-matic. 39k

-2008 E350 23,000 miles. P1, pano, Sport and 4-matic. 34K

Should i spend more and get the amg appearance package? Or would it be better and cheaper to get the sport and add the E-63 Bumper?

No question, panos look much nicer. They do have a tendency to creak and squeak though which may affect refinement. You might also want to avoid airmatics if reliability is important. This aside, I would definitely go for the more aggressive AMG look if possible...

both have pano and neither have airmatic. are these certified? if not, the prices seem a little high dont they? i vote for amg pkg car. i would rather have the factory painted pieces rather than doing it afterwards.

2008 E350 4Matic
Those prices are way too high... there are a zillion 2008 E350 4Matics coming off Mercedes Financial Leases... in the last 40 days at the ADESA auctions, there were 97 of 2008 E350 4Matics sold nationwide, with a large concentration (44) sold at the Washington DC auction. The average dealer purchase price nationwide over the last 40 days is $28K. There is a dealer near me who will take an order, find the car at the auction and charge you $2000 over his cost... but it's not CPO.... but you're not paying CPO prices. With a 2008, where MB has worked out the bugs, CPO is overkill in my opinion. Much depends upon if you'll be doing maintenance yourself and saving your money in the event that a major repair is required.

Anyway, my opinion would be to find one with the P2 package and the other options you may want. There are a TON of them for sale.

The price has gone up a bit since the spring, when there were hundreds being sold at the DC auction, but has not moved up too much.

AMG sport package is nice, but it's not an AMG... really. The regular sport package came as a free option with that car. If you're hot on AMG look for an older E55, they're pretty inexpensive, depending on mileage and year, and you get a total rocketship.

Have fun. PM me if you want details regarding the dealer I was mentioning.

Mike

You may want more tire sidewall (i.e. smaller rims) for Michigan roads.

I find the 18" rims on my 550 to be just fine in downtown Chicago in Comfort mode. I also do not think 4Matic is necessary as I have driven through plenty of snow without any problems.

Those prices are really high, even if prices have gone up.

Also, a smart shopping tactic is to pretend like the AMG Package doesn't mean anything to you, and act as if you barely notice it. In the Used market it shouldn't command much of a premium, unless someone is specifically looking for it.

For example, my old W211 with AMG Pack was a very rare find for its year, I did pay a slight premium for it when I bought it, due to really needing one with it, but when I was selling it, most buyers didn't seem to want to pay a premium for it.

Between the two though, I'd take the AMG Package, it's a must on an E-Class IMO.

Thanks for all the input guys, i do think that these prices are high but these dealers wont seem to budge. Both vehicles are certified, but i still think its a little expensive. Back in last October i found a 2008 E350 with amg pkg, P2, and pano, with 24 thousand miles. It was at a mercedes dealer and certified for 35 thousand. I should have pulled the trigger on that but i didn't, and now all i'm finding is other E350s with less options and higher price. Well see what happens.
