Holy Smoke on my 05 CDI

My 05 CDI (Diesel) shows 220000 miles on the dash and is now smoking black smoke. When it was new it would only smoke when you floored it. But now getting smoke while driving. Oil have been changed by the dealer ever 10,000 miles and it does not burn a drop. The Catalitic converter is vibrating. Any idears?

Thanks

Does the CDI have DPF? If not.. i would suspect that sort of thing would happen eventually. Have you tried blowing the soot out by doing several high rev runs?

Not unusual at this mileage. By the way congratulations - 220K miles - you are driving a diesel as you are supposed to.
Not burning oil is good. Most likely carbon deposits on valves. Try a few cans of Liqui Moly diesel purge - one can per tank and drive as already suggested for a while at high RPM - this may clean some of the deposits and may help. I don't think you have to worry too much. My 1996 VW Passat TDI also started smoking a little bit more around 200K but full power and no oil consumption whatsoever. Keep driving it - you have at least another 300K left on this engine.

Morde5 - 05 E320 CDI 65K mi.

I have also heard that bad Cats can cause the black smoke also and a really bad vibration sound from under the car as you said the cat is vibrating. But yes have it check out asap if you dont feel it is normal or driving right.

Black smoke means too much fuel. I'd guess it's got a leaky injector, or something to do with fuel pressure regulation.
