Terrific post, thank you very much. I'll add a few other things. The caliper bolts are 18mm. For those of you having trouble getting the discs off - hit them from the front with a heavy dead-blow or rubber mallet. The lip that goes over the hub is only about an 1/8" thick so the torque action will break it free. It will save you a lot of headaches and banged fingers. Also, if the soft, chewy centers of the pistons fall (and some will), be very careful picking them up and replacing them - they crumble easily.

The photos are deleted for some unexplainable reason as others have stated. These photos would be helpful. Can you post the pictures again, please.

Despite being no pics, I read through the process described and it helped a ton for doing rotors and pads on my '08 E350 Sport. You just gotta man up and get on in there and do it... it's really not that hard once you dig in. May take you longer on the first side, but once you get it down, the next side will take you 30 minutes. Thanks for the guide! My rotors were rusted on so I used the bolt method to get them off after spending half an hour beating on them and didn't budge. Worked like a charm and had it off within a minute.

2009 E350 update
This thread, as well as others on this forum and even the shop CD manual(2008) refer to pins that have to be driven out to remove the front pads. MB seems to have changed this design in 2009. I just replaced my pads and hardware and the front calipers are removed after unscrewing two bolts with a socket wrench. Of course this is a different size and arrangement than the rears, which use an allen wrench.
