Knocking Noise

I'm hearing a knocking noise from my front end. I hear it when proceeding from a stopped position just after pressing the gas pedal and once the car has been running for a while. I have a 2007 E350 Sport with 35k.

Any ideas?

Can you give us a few more clues? Is it related to engine speed, or car speed, or left turns, right turns, accelerating, braking, a/c on/off, pedestrian being dragged beneath the car, etc?

I hear it when proceeding from a stopped position just after pressing the gas pedal. It appears once the car has been running for an hour or more, a/c on, beneath the car towards the front.

One single knock or a continuous knock?

One single knock. Yesterday as I pulled into my driveway I noticed the same knock as my wife got out of the car so I started checking the front end thinking maybe shock or strut. I pushed up and down, rocked and nothing. I then sat on the passenger side and I heard the same knock once but was not able to recreate it again. This morning it was fine initially but after 30/40 minutes I started to notice the knocking after accelerating from a stopped position.

jerome... Is the car knocking under acceleration (i.e. motor) or is it suspension (when you are on a bumpy road or enter or leave the driveway)? Looks like low miles to be the issue, but could be sway/torsion arm bushing in the front.

Does the car vibrate or shake or rumble/hum under cruising conditions? Does it knock when you rev the motor at a standstill?

Need details

Is the car knocking under acceleration: No. It knocks after 30 0r 40mins and only once when pulling away from a standing position. It's consistent once the car is warmed up.

I don't know whether it is the suspension or motor and it doesn't appear to make the noise on a bumpy road or entering or leaving the driveway. No vibrating, shaking or rumble/hum under cruising conditions or when I rev the engine at a standstill.

I will do more monitoring over the next day or so and provide my findings.

I have a 07 E350 when it had about 41,000 mi, had EXACT same s/s (signs & symptom=medical talk) took a ride with MB tech who identified it - ball joints. Done and no more knocking.

No Problem! Now if someone can just help me determine what the heck that rubbing/whirring noise is coming from the Left front wheel before I get out of warranty I will be a happy woman!

Stealership said tire noise (OE conti's) nope! Have had it to 3 different Benz Stealerships, and yet no one can determine what the noise is. it is constant as the car is driven, and after the relative quiet of a w210, this noisey rubbing sound encourages me leave this car in the garage 75% of the time. Even my husbands MY01 SLK is quieter...!

OMG! We must have cars from the same batch! I kid you not, we were riding today with the windows and sunroof open since it's a cloudy not so hot day here in NY and I heard a squealing/high pitch whistling noise. My wife heard the same. I have to keep an ear open for this as well.

Also, with regard to the knocking noise, today I was able to reproduce this. At a standstill if I turn my wheel slightly in either direction I can hear the same knock. It's pretty consistent.

I will take the car to the stealership as soon as I can. My warranty is nearing it's end in 2011 and I want to make sure these issues get addressed.

I have a 2010 E350 w/about 7000 miles on it, and I'm getting the knock sound in the driver's side front wheel area when going over bumps at any speed... roomor mentioned low miles may be an issue for jerome, and I'm curious if anyone else has any thoughts about this.

Thanks.

I do not understand the low miles association. Maybe Roomor can elaborate. I went to the dealer but they could not replicate the issue. This in my opinion is due to lack of communication at my dealership. I will revisit this when I have the time but it will be at different dealership.
