Radar Detector Hardwire [HOW-TO]

So as you can see from my 3.5mm Audio Jack Reroute hardwire [HOW-TO] I dont like wires handin around so while i was doing the 3.5 jack re-route I decided to hardwire my radar detector. Looks like this was done by others here on the forums so this is my input on how i did it

go here and follow my instructions for taking the the center console apart.

I ran the wire from where i wanted the detector to be so I could make sure I have enough wire to do the job. The Passport uses RJ45 wire (phone cord).

You can pull the A piller cover loose. The clips are alittle tight it pops out

I then ran it down the rubber door flap along the door jam

Now remove the 2 torx under the drivers side dash

After Running it through the dash (used a long wire tie)

I ran it under the center console cross brace. In my E500 I found the power the block for the rear cigarette lighter it had a solid brown wire and and a yellow wire with a black stripe. This should be standard for most E500's.

I found the yellow and black stripe wire was the hot line.
I didnt want to do ANY kind of splicing so I decided to tuck the wires into the back of the distro block. I tested it by turing the ignition swich on and off to make sure the detector turned on when the car turns on.

I then used black tape to secure the wiring.

Put everything back in the reverse order.

here is the final result

I hope this helps!

Actually, in this picture, if this is the driver side door, that panel just below the dash is the fuse box, there are plenty of empty slots you can tap in for 12 volt supply.

Yeah I knew about that. unfortunatly all of the fuses are constantly hot. I couldnt find any that would turn off when the ignition is turned off.

Good point! You are probably right about that. For the purpose of my application (bluetooth connectivity), I actually need constant 12v...
