service cost

I got my first "B" service today and it cost almost $600 - this strikes me as very high considering what items are called for. I am curious if others have paid this much as well.

I should note that I posted this in the W212 forum (I have a 2010 E550) but I doubt there are a lot of people that have needed the B service yet - so thought I'd check here.

yep, same price last month. After thinking about it, I just got more angry and decided that I will do preventive maintenance myself. They did not do anything that I could not do in my garage for less than $120 for parts.

Got the same quote recently and looks like it boiled down to oil change and 4 filters.

Did it myself and reset the indicator.
Not sure with a new car under warranty however: Is it acceptable to do your own service....(?)

Yes, it is acceptable. Will not void your warranty.

Thanks for replies. I think they also changed the brake fluid fluid for this price as well- which seems unnecessary in a modern car.

I used to service my own cars all the time....think I might be going back to

Why do you think brake fluid changes are unnecessary in a modern car?

They are even more so necessary than in old cars. You have ABS pumps, ABS sensors, switches, etc in modern braking systems, unlike the old cars where you pushed the pedal, and a vacuum assisted piston plunged down and pressurized the fluid in order to expand the calipers.

Euro cars are pretty rigid about two year intervals for brake fluid change due to the water absorption. I also change my Corvette on two year intervals. My truck has had the same fluid for eight years....go figure.

Make sure that you keep the receipts for your oil, oil filter. I don't know about MB but with Infiniti, if you have an engine problem and they feel it might be related to oil changes in order to cover the repair under warranty they want proof that you did in fact change the oil.

Found detailed instructions somewhere on this board.
Forgot the procedure now, but part of it was to use the buttons and arrows on the left side of the steering wheel after you got into the service menu.
