Why doesn't the W211's have "Voice Command"?

I have a 2007 E350 pretty new when I got it. I was just wondering what year did they start putting voice command in the E classes or have they yet since 2007?

Trey Aug 29, 2010 05:49 PM

I had an 06 E500 and my current 08 E350 both with voice command. It was optional most years, but I believe it was standard on 09's. Since it does not work with Nav (at least up to 08) I find it pretty useless.

I had it on my 05 S500 and 07 S550 also and didn not use it on them much either.

Oh okay cool, I was just wondering because my E350 is completely loaded other than voice command. Would of been nice for radio stations on my car, oh well. Thanks man for the info!

*MP3 compatibilty
*Bluetooth
*Voice command
*HDD

Oh really? Thats awesome! thanks for the suggestion, i don't have Mp3 capability for mine so that would be a really nice thing to have! How much do typically run?

I added Voice control to the wifes 211

You will need the VCS control unit, optic harness and the wand
Then version code it present via the Star

I believe the 08-09 came with voice comman with the P1 pkg which come with the navi. I know my 09 has it. I find it to be pretty handy sometimes especially when putting in a address, it basically hands free.

Trey said it the Voice Command does not work with the NAV.

Figured I would ask you since you have one.
Voice control of the NAV is why I am looking to add it.

No Voice control of NAV in '07s. Only can input radio freq, Choose audio source, cd track number, and phone comands if present. No comands in or out of SAT mode or SAT channels.

Pretty basic... But I like it. Its a novelty.

VCS doesn't work with navigation, but it is very convenient for telephone calls and radio/audio changes. I would love it if it worked with NAV, but I do make a lot of calls and find the feature still rather useful.

o 4GB Music Register (approx. 1000 songs)
o Traffic guidance, Gracenote Database, ZAGAT Guide
o iPOD/MP3 interface, HD Digital Radio

Let me guess;
I full retrofit of the '09 Command into an "07 is an expensive and difficult proposition?

Someone here did it & said just that. Plus, when you're all done, you will have an orphan. Something most people won't want to work on or buy.

It is NOT plug & play.

fortlaudsummer Aug 30, 2010 07:21 PM

It depends on your perception of expensive.
It will be in the low four digit range.

Hi, in the process of adding voice control in 07 e350, understand harness for voice control is nonexistent unless it was ordered through build. I thought I was smart and found wrecked 06 and cut out what I thought I needed for the vcs harness. I have everything hooked up, it works except microphone part. The VCS power harness in 06 has a blue 9 wire connector labled SDS that is supposed to pig tail into teleaid. But in 07 doesn't seem to be in trunk harness. Has anyone figured out how to make this part work. Thanks.

Does anyone know how to activate or get voice command to listen to you on an 04 e55? I've gone through the initialization process with success but I have no idea how to get it to respond to me, and the manual is no help.

Activate it from the Voice Control stalk.

Do you have separate VCS manual, if not PM email address.

I have voice command on my 2004 W211 installed from the factory.

I don't remember or not if it had voice control for navigation because I switched to the Euro COMAND and this combination allows me to have voice control for navigation.

Earlier someone posted problems with Voice Control for the phone. In order to activate the Voice Control to dial a number you need to do the following: On you Command System go to PHONE,GO TO A NAME (JOHN JONES) SELECT OPTION along side on John Jones. You system will ask if you want Voice Recognition .You must that say the name "JOHN JONES" the system may ask you to repeat the name until it says "Voice Activation Saved". You need to do this for any phone # you may dial frequently.
