COMAND doesn't turn ON

I am completely mystified by COMAND failure in my 03 E500. The unit doesn't turn on at all and has absolutely no signs of life. The motorized CD changer cover doesn't open up either. It makes me to believe that no power being supplied to COMAND which then drives the CD changer. Checked every fuse in the car -- no bad ones found. Where do I go from here (hope not the dealership)? Could it be a sign of a failed Audio Gateway?

Please help!!!

Have you tried unplugging and re-inserting the power cable on the back of the COMAND and the cd changer?

And checking the fuse at the rear of the unit at the same time (most often there is a fuse).

Okay. After hooking the car up to STAR Diagnose, pulling COMAND out and swapping it with a different unit the verdict is in. My COMAND is dead and needs to be fixed. Has anyone heard of any places that maybe able to fix these?

Can you confirm you did check the fuse from the old Comand unit itself? It would be a bit expensive to change the fuse this way although less expensive than changing the car to a new one.

Of course the Comand can be broken but I don't think they often fail this way.

I didn't realize that there was a fuse inside COMAND. Do you know this for sure? Where is it located?

Not all head units have a fuse but if there is one, it would be visible at the rear. Usually it would be within the big connector or next to it.

Edit: googling NTG1 photos makes me feel it actually would not have the typical fuse at the rear.

Yeah, no visible fuse on mine either. I have the Euro version BE 7023.
