Seafoam

Hey guys. I have a 2006 e350 that sits for at least weeks at a time sometimes. I start it up and run it once a week if I can. Anyway I was concerned about the same gas sitting in the tank and lines for periods of time as I understand that the gas with ethanol can separate in as little as 3 weeks and can be problematic. With that said, is it safe to add a little Seafoam to the gas to stabilize it and keep things from getting gummed up or alcohol separation? If not, what is the recommendation. I have used Techron in the past, but it is just an injector cleaner detergent additive that doesn't stabilize gas as far as I know. THANKS.

"Stabil" is made for this purpose. I believe they claim water/ alcohol protection for up to a year. I have bought it at parts houses and Wal Mart

I have never pushed it quite that far but it did stop varnish buildup in a motorcycle, lawnmowers, and inboard / outboard from one season to the next

Thanks, Clinton. So is Stabil safe in our cars?

I cannot say from experience as I have never added it to my M-B.
I have run it in an EFI Honda Blackbird motorcycle for 5 years with no problems. Kind of like the flu shot, you can't really tell if it did any good unless the motor won't start.
I have run seafoam in other motors as well and it made no real difference.
Seafoam is a fuel cleaner (IMHO) Stabil is an anti oxidizer. I have never known any manufacturer to approve ANY additive unless they were getting a cut from the sales.
My gut is that it is OK but I am not ready to assume liability for your $10,000 engine.
Maybe someone else here has pros and cons
