Engine Rattle...did a search
Hey Guys. Help me out.
On my 2004 E320 wagon, I just started hearing a noticeable engine rattle during some cold starts--not all. And today, I found it happened after letting the car sit for 40 minutes--after a 30 mile drive. It sounds like it's coming from the driver-side front of engine.
I just got the engine mounts replaced and checked to make sure it's not the SBC pump. It sounds like it could be one of the many pullys, but it's very hard to locate and it only does it for about 10 seconds. Initially it only did it during the increased RPMs during warm-up.
A couple questions:
1. Are there any components that only activate during the first 15-20 seconds of a cold engine start?
2. Is there a list somewhere of what the different pulleys are?
Car was in a recent minor fron fender bender. It's most certainly related, but we need to find out what it is so they can repair it. Dealer can not so far duplicate it--though they didn't really try.

You can tell by looking what they're for. If pulley is on alternator, it's alternator pulley, etc.
This engine may go through belt tensioners (with a pulley) fairly quickly.

On my 06 E350 it does the same thing when starting, only on cold starts as well. Is it something involved in the exhaust system specifically the catalytic converter?
