how long before wipers replaced?
How long before the factory wipers on our cars should be replaced?
I'm thinking of having the dealer replace mine since they are the original wipers that came with the car when I bought it in Sept 07.
The wipers seem to be streaking a lot during heavy rain.
I've seen people quote a model # of Bosch wipers on Amazon but that model # yields "does not fit" when Amazon asks for my year and model so I figure best bet is to just have the dealer do it.

Many dealers charge for the wipers & also charge to install them! It takes less than 3 seconds per blade to install them. Buy the blades at Parts & install them yourself. (I've seen people be charged $25.00 labor to change blades!!)
1. Stop the blades about 1/2 way up the sweep by turning off the car with the drivers door open.
2. Lift the arm away from the glass.
3. Turn the blade 90 degrees from its normal position relative to the arm. Tip of blade is now close to the glass pointing rearward, other tip of the blade pointing forward.
4. Slide the blade off the post that it swivels on.
5. Reverse proceedure to install, do not let arm snap back & hit glass without the blade on it.
If by some chance you aren't happy with the result, switch the blades from Right to Left.
Some blades last 1.5 years, some a year, some less, depending on temperature, snow, how much they're used, etc. replace them when they bother you. Do not pay list for them. Expect 15 - 20% off on this part, or ask for it. Its a counterman's discretion discount.

I change mine about once a year and get them at Amazon. They are the easiest thing in the world to replace, takes me longer to walk to the trash can and toss the old ones than it does to swap them out.

Thanks for all the great info. Yeah, my dealer (FJ Newport Beach) wants $60 for the part, no labor charge. I think I'll order it from parts.com using the part number konigstiger has provided.
Thanks everyone! I haven't changed mine out since I bought my car (Sept 07) and even though I live in SoCal I figure there is still wear and tear from the occasional rain, constant sun, etc.

dealer charges like 60 a pair around here. i bought mine off amazon back in the beginning of january and they're still good. paid like 33 shipped. the set i got from the dealer under warranty back in march 2008 went to crap fast. plastic pieces were even coming off within a year.
here's something funny, dealer around here wants like 60 per wiper for s/cl wipers (120 a pair) and they're only like 35 or 40 on amazon

The issue with Amazon is every Bosch part number I've found on the forums, says it won't fit my car according to Amazon's wizard which asks for year/make/model. Not sure what to do but cough up $60 to the dealer for a pair.

I bought Bosch Aero wipers from Auto Barn and they look and work just like the original wiper blades. Cost $40 for the pair.
