2004 E-Class
Does anyone know when the 2004 models will start getting to the dealers? My parents are thinking about getting an E500, but they dont want to buy the first year model of the car because of all the problems.

This is actually a funny idea... if you're worried about resale value, then yes, an official 2004 is better, but if you're worried about problems, outside of some feature which may have been options in '03 and become standard in '04, or extra options that come available, or changes in color schemes, there is very little difference between a late '03 and an early '04... actually when you start calling them '04's is pretty arbitrary. The only time it really changes big is when you redo the whole model... and that changes over the whole assembly line... usually takes a couple of months to start up the new one...
But going from an '03 to an '04 in the e-class? That's pretty arbitrary, and it's about as simple as going up to a vehicle and pronouncing that it and all vehicles after it is an '04... that's probably done by some managers in Germany... pretty arbitrary really.
It does affect the resale price though... oddly enough.

I was kind of wondering about the 2004 E also, hoping that would be when they would address the common problems like the engine ticking (motor mounts), drifting to the right, excessively noisy wipers, etc.. Or are they making running changes to fix these problems that I'm just unaware of? I believe I've read a couple of comments from people who received March makes and still have the drifting to the right.

I would hope sincerely that the new engine mounts were rolled into the assembly line a long time ago... I'd hate to think that they're STILL building with the old, known to become faulty engine mounts...
It's like recalls... Sometimes, it states a model year, and sometimes it states a VIN number and all prior VINs... because after that VIN, they already started putting the fix in at build time.
Now whether the drifting to the right problem is a simple assembly line fix or not... or tighter specs or quality control, I don't know... but using the right engine mounts that they are using at the dealerships had better be done right now...
