Climate Control REST option for residual heat

Did the W211 climate control used to have a REST option that recirculated residual engine heat while the car is stopped. Did they discontinue this feature? I can't seem to find it in my 2007 W211.

The feature doesn't seem to be there, but I often see my car in "REST" mode on its own. Been too lazy to even read up in the manual about it.

I could not find anything about it in my 2007 E550 manual. Interior photos of previous model W211s seems to have a button for this but not in my car. Does it do this automatically now?

It would be great to to have the benefit of this feature with all the cold winter weather we have been having in DC lately.

I'm looking for this and the ability to get fresh cold air from the outside to no avail.

yeah my car automatically does it .. b/c sometimes I'll come up to the car and before I can unlock the doors at night, I can see the front and rear climate control displays showing "REST" and I can hear the fans or whatever running near the vent at the top of the hood.

MY05+ the feature was removed (along with charcoal button in V8 models).

After MY04 many things were removed i.e. butterfly armrest, ac thumbwheel, faux vent speaker cover for center speaker, etc.

As far as I can tell just the button is removed. The "REST" feature seems to work automatically.

The HVAC controls were changed in MY 2007 & all were made electronic. "Rest" is gone w/ 2007.

Car free at the moment
My USA model '06 does not have it. The owners manual shows the Rest button present and states that Canada models do have it. Strange. I liked the feature on my 210 cars, even it Texas it was useful.

How can it be "gone" when my 08 E550 goes into "REST" mode automatically?

Can we have someone tell us if it is there or not conclusively? I'm sure we have an expert around here who knows what happened to this feature. Would be great if MB made it automatic but I'd like to know then under what circumstances this feature would turn itself on...

I'd just like to know for sure... I've never seen it say REST on my 2007 E550 but I have had it for just about a month.

Ah! Not that I don't trust you or think you are seeing things or anything...

For one thing you have a 2008 E550 and I have a 2007 and I'd just like to know what is going on with this feature and conclusively know if it is there on a 2007 E550. Also it would be nice to have some idea under what circumstances it is automatically activated and for how long...

You and me both. I'm curious how it works, why it works, when it comes on, etc.

I travel and am paranoid while I'm gone if it keeps coming on it might drain the battery.

"REST" is a button. It's available in Canada models in 2007, 2008, 2009. "MAX COOL" is also a button. It's available in USA models in 2007, 2008, 2009.

In the these models with 4 zone climate control (ie, E550) there will be a rest button or a max cool button depending if the car was built for the Canada market of the USA market.

In 2006, there was also a "REST" button in Canada only and a blank button in USA versions.

I'd like to see a photo
Because REST can only be activated with a manual push of the button. It doesn't come on 'automatically' (although it shuts off automatically.)

...and don't worry about the battery becoming depleted. The car's computer always monitors the draw on the battery and its current charge and will always cut off power to electrical "consumers" before the battery is overtaxed.

I had an older US E320 with the rest button and liked it a lot. Run into the store and the car was warm when you got back in for up to 20 minutes. My '09 doesn't have the button but when waiting for my wife with the engine off and the key in the accessory position I have seen the "rest" feature turn on by itself in cold weather.

Now I could leave the key in the car when I shop and hope the car is there when I return - naah!

So with the key in the ignition the car goes into REST mode when it is cold?

Come on! Someone on this forum must know the answer to this conclusively...

220S, I don't agree b/c I don't have "REST" but it does come on automatically.

Then please do take a photo. "REST" will appear in the climate control display (if so equipped.)

btw, are people confusing automatic climate control with REST? If you leave the ignition accessory position on, then the climate control will keep warming the car to the temp that was set...(as loudbmw posted.) REST will activate only if the car is completely turned off (pulling residual heat from the engine bay) http://www4.mercedes-benz.com/manual...html#d13e44641

But if there is no button, there is no REST.
It wasn't designed to run 'automatically.' The REST mode was intentionally designed to have the operator push the button, and then it would shut itself down automatically after a short time.

So please take a pic to prove me wrong. Or make a short vid off your phone.

There must be some confusion here, are you perhaps referring to the "Recirculation" mode that does come on e.g. if the car detects some bad odour? I have to admit I've never seen my car doing this but this it what the user manual explains.

My 04 had the "rest" button, my 07 did not. I do miss the "butterfly" console and the heated, air conditioned seats that had a message feature. Ahhh, progress.

Happy New Year!!!

I had all of them too in my '04, hardly used them, but neat to have there. The old console worked better for me, but the real cupholders in the new console is far a far superior compromise.

Barry, Happy New Year. I agree about the cupholders, an old feature I had (should) have forgotten about.
