E350 and its affect on the E320

When is the E350 going to be coming out, as a 2004 model or has the date even been released yet? Also, if the 3.5 is coming out as an '04 model, will that affect the price of new '03 E320's at dealers knowing that they will have a nicer model to replace it? Therefore offering incentives to purchase a 2003 E320

Thanks

guess late 2004 as 2005 model

New diesel E is supposed to come out during the 2004 calendar year as a 2005 model. Would expect the 350 to be available in same time frame. No official information however and we might actually not see the 350 until there is significant body style upgrade as well.

Depends on when it is offered. Probably a minimal impact if it is not a mid year change. If they change the engine from 3.2 to 3.5 without changing the name, as they have done in the past, even less of an impact. they did this with the 300 E, I believe.

Also, i would be surprised if they changed the name to the E350 give the cloase association to the Nissan 350Z. Just an observation.

Northbenz-
Ive read about the new diesel E, but with my current E diesel I had to replace the glow plugs at ~80K (which is rather short) this is attributed to the poor diesel fuel we have here in the states. Replacing the glow plugs is not cheap as well so I was a little upset that it would have to be done so often. I have given consideration to the upcoming diesel, but with the US not to get the more pure diesel fuel until around 2007 it seems like it may not make sense now. Thats why Im considering getting a 320 right when they change to the 3.5L in hopes of getting somewhat of a discount on the remaining 320's.

skymast-
I doubt MB would change the engine size w/o making any visible outside designations. I can't remember a model they have done that for in the past.

mtmnet-
Just the info. I was looking for, thanks.

"Subject to change"

Autospies, aren't these the same people who promised us a folding hardtop for the new CLK? Since the January reporting regarding the E350 I haven't heard anything to confirm their earlier projection. Has anyone else?

In fact, AutoWeek said that while the ML would get the 350, MB did not plan to certify the 3.7 engine for the E-Class. It was in an article regarding the new wagon.

yes, that autoweek article seemed like the latest "good information", no E350 for 2004. still, you see references to the E350 as a 2004 model on several websites. i think it would effect 2003 320 re-sale, that is one reason why I am still holding off on the 320 until some good information is leaked,

I don't know what impact it would have on the price, but I know that I prefer to have the E320 with an engine that has been around awhile and has the kinks worked out!! Plus, it has plenty of power. If I felt the car were underpowered, I would have bought the E500. So, plenty of power and a tried and true engine. My vote goes to the E320!

E320 vs. E350

Not a big jump in Horsepower, but the torque increase will probably be felt....
