Made Pilgrimage to See E55
The E55 on the lot was Silver w/ charcoal. It was a beatiful car needless to say.
The front bumper is more prominant, the side skirts and rear bumper appear to be about the same as my E500 sport.
Cosmetically, the AMG wheels are the biggest and most differentiating feaure on the car. And they look awesome! Also, you should see the size of the brakes...they are huge.
The interior is about the same as the sport model. Same coloring w/ birdseye maple trim, The seats are more supportive and the AMG floor mats are a nice accent.
OK, I know (and appreciate) the difference between the E5000 Sport and the E55 and there is something to be said for the E55's 0 - 60 in 4.5 seconds, suspesion tuning, etc. but as with most of the previous AMGs, the exterior accents are understated and the cosmetic diiferences between the sport and AMG are minimal.
What does all this mean: 1) if I were buying today, I WOULD spring for the E55 ... another $78K for that type of performance and a car that is as fast as $130K 911 turbo is a BARGAIN; 2) I WOULD NOT trade my current E500 for an E55; and 3) I might buy the wheels.
