Thanks for the response! Where specifically should it be applied?

Wink Lubricate door hinges...

Hi nicky,

It should come with one of those (usually) red tubes one inserts into the spray nozzle to direct the spray without getting it everywhere.
This product will penetrate the pin area of the hinge to lubricate, and will set up as a waxy coating after a few minutes...
...so as not to attract dirt and leave a mess.
This product was developed by the Boeing (Aircraft) Co. to provide a means of protecting aluminum riveted seams. It works equally well on ferrous (iron, steel) metals as well, and due to the capillary action is well-suited for applications like hinges.
Good for saltwater applications (moving metal parts) as well, due to it's resistance to washing off.
No, I don't have any stock in the Co. that makes it...
...You asked for a recommendation, so here is mine.

Best wishes,
Mike

Funny, I would have suggested white Lithium grease spray, which I use on mine.

However, this Boeshield product looks really interesting. Great tip !

T-9's Boeshield

T-9 Boeshield is a wax dissolved in solvents with corrosion inhibitors added. It is used by woodworkers to keep iron and steel surfaces slippery and rust-protected and by bicylists to lubricate their chains and to make them water-proof.

I am not so sure it would make a good hinge lubricant. I think you want a grease for that kind of application, not a wax.

Worth a try, though, I suppose. Although it is pricey compared to white lithium grease spray. Like $10 a can vs. about $2.
