Is my car possessed?
Went out to go somewhere today and the car is dead. When you turn the key to the on position, you get a brief flash of the instrument panel, then it goes dead and there is a puffing/hissing coming from the engine compartment. The clock runs backwards for a while, then forward to the correct time again. Then the dash and everything else is inoperative for a minute or two. Then you can again turn the key and start the cycle again.
The car ran fine yesterday with no issues, no blips no anything.
Is this a dead battery? If so, why... the car is only a year and a half old.
I have a call in to the dealer, but waiting to hear back.

My 08 E350 is doing exactly this right now. Also the trunk will not open unless I use the key. All interior electrical functions are working (windows, sunroof, radio, a/c etc.) once the dash settles down. Searching for an answer around here. Already have the battery hooked up to a trickle charger in case thats it, but it shouldn't be as the battery should be strong.

I would first locate the battery and check the voltage???
Batteries do get drained overnight when a module or modules do not go to sleep, but whatever check the voltage, if low get it charged so you can attempt to start the car. Good Luck
