E-350 W211 Transmission holds downshift too long

When I am traveling 40-65 mph and punch the throttle to pass, it downshifts properly but once the pass is complete, it does not up shift until I lightly push the accelerator again. If I don't touch the accelerator after the downshift, it will hold the lower gear for 5-8 seconds.
This is a great trait if I were on a race track and needed engine breaking before the next turn but this is a 4 door sedan with 2 baby seats in the back. I want to make the move and resume like every other car I have owned since 1979. This could not be normal. It turns a typical driving routine into an irrational event.
I purchased this car used at 25K. It now has 40K and has been serviced several times for this issue. I had the MB mechanic take it home and he could not recreate the issue. I drove with another MB mechanic after they "upgraded the software" and could not reproduce the problem.
They also did a glycol test and it came up negative.
After reading posts on the "Learning" transmission, I think the dealership is resetting the computer, giving it back to me stating no problems found. After it re-learns my habits, promptly goes back to its old annoying habits.
This is driven by my wife 95% of the time. She is not aggressive. When I drive it, I will indulge in 1-2 spirited onramp accelerations in a day of driving.
Two questions:
Is the transmission supposed to hold the downshifted gear 5-8 seconds after a spirited downshift/acceleration when gas pedal is released?
If this is normal, will I have to reset the computer every night so it shifts normally?

Fret not, sounds quite normal to me. You may have to switch to 'C' and/or drive around it. I just ease up slightly on the accelerator after the overtake (and hit the paddle if necessary) to change to a higher gear.
