When does the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Decide to do a burn?
In 07+ bluetec's, the DPF heats up to 1200 Celsius every once in a while to burn off excess soot (from the diesel smoke). My question is, how often does it decide to do so? Is it relative to the amount of soot, or every x amount of hours or miles?
Also, when it decides to begin, how long does it take, and what happens if it starts doing it on a short trip and I turn the car off after a few miles? Any best practices out there about this?
