2005 E320 - Horn and Steering Wheel Controls Broken

I'm working on a 2005 E320 CDI that has the horn and steering wheel controls inop. I'm trying to find out if this is common and what the problem usually is. My searching came up with a few threads, but no one ever said what the problem actually was. I checked the two fuses one thread talking about and both were fine. It also mentioned something about a column control module, but I'm not sure that's it because the power tilt/telescope and turn signals still work. The airbag light isn't on so I don't think it's the clock spring either. I removed the air bag and didn't notice any frayed wires. I got about 5v from the black and red wires at the 3 wire connector to the horn/controls circuit board on the airbag. I think that's about right, so I'm thinking the circuit board might have gone wrong. Anyone seen this before?

Same problem, but i want to note that i smelled something burning before and during the buttons not working. I didn't check the harness wire to the steering column from underneath, but i'll check tomorrow if i have time. Update us if you find anything as i think a couple on the forum have the same problem.

Hmm, so maybe this isn't very common? I wish I could find a schematic of the controls.
