Parktronic Fault - Front&Rear Red lights & Alarm
Folks,
Forgive the rather vague nature of this query but....
Some time ago, my parktronic developed a short lived fault, where the 4 front, and 4 rear red lights (not the yellow ones) came on, with the alarm. The fault went away as quickly as it started.
However, now it's back, and this time it seems to be not going away!
So my question is - does anyone know of the cause? Likely cost to repair (approx)? Any other thoughts on the matter?!?
Thanks!
Steve

I had an issue with my parktronic when I had auto body work done, the shop put too much clear coat on one of the sensors and everytime parktronic was activated (car in drive or reverse) I would get the alarm and 4 red lights on both sensors. The shop ended up buffing off the extra clear coat on the sensor and that resolved the issue. Also here in jersey when we get the slushy wet snow, when driving and then any of the sensors gets covered this will happen but will go away once the slush/ice is cleaned away from the sensor. Hope this helps.

Hmm, thanks for that...
I wonder if it's simply a case of the car having a lazy owner, that hasn't washed it in a while! Or maybe just some bad luck with dirt hitting the sensors just right.
I guess it's bucket and sponge time to find out!
Thanks for your comments!

These sensors are very sensitive Dirt and snow causes all kinds of alarms with mine, but I did have the same alarms as you are referencing last year and it turned out to be just one of my sensors had gone bad. I had it replaced and all has been fine since then. The car needs to be hooked up to SDS to check for the fault in the system.

My disarming switch keeps going to "off" position without being touched. System doesn't operate without me manually switching back on. Red lights only and short beep warning. Diagnostic test shows all sensors okay. Could the switch be faulty or the main unit (Wherever it is on the car) ? Also when switched on manually and I start driving, the unit switches back to the "off" position by itself. I've only had the car a few weeks and hopefully any repair will be carried out under warranty, therefore, I'd appreciate any help meantime.

parktronic fault front and rear lights & alarm
After ist. visit to authorised Merc repairer, all sensors showed okay. Took car away and fault still there. After two other visists and diagnostic tests, two sensors were found faulty. Fixed under warranty, except for diagnostic test and the paint and painting of sensors (£61 and £20 respectively) which I will be qeurying. You need the diagnostic check to isolate the faulty sensors. Lights and alarm now working. This seems to be a very common fault. Hope you get yours fixed. By the way, the bill for the sensors and fitting without the £61 was Just over £200. Sensors apprx. £48 each. That is in Scotland.

Sensors are delivered colorless and require painting prior to install. If warranty covered part stands to reason, diagnostics and painting should be covered. Importantly, sensors should be properly painted.

I have mine booked in as a scheduled service is also due.
At least I now know what to excpect.
It just seems funny that everytime the car is due for a service some other fault pops up.

Firstly, Hi Everyone - this is my first post.
I have exactly the same issue on my 2005 ML270. Just purchased the car and the seller told me it was intermittent but it is actually permanent. I think it probably gave up completely when he washed the car to get it ready for sale so potentially could be water ingress into a sensor.
Now it is just a case of finding out which one(s) have gone. Don't really want to pay a Main Stealer an in-proportionate amount of cash just to plug it into a computer but I guess I might not have much choice.
Out of interest, is it usually the front ones that go?
Thanks

Unfortunately, you need to hook up to SDS to troubleshoot. It is annoying but necessary. Not as annoying as the continous beep everytime you slow below 10mph and take off.

without a serious look, I believe(myguess) that because the parktronic is intergrated into many systems, disconecting the parktronic will have an adverse effect on other systems.
What does your owners manual say??
Why do you want to disconnect the system??

Hi
I was thinking of disabling the system as all I get are false warnings and I never really seem to use Parktronic as I never leave my car anywhere besides my own garage.
Regards,
OZZYAMG

parktronic can be turned off from the switch right next to your shifter. but completely turning it off? i dont know about that.
Like Plutoe asked...why?
you say you only leave your car at your own garage...
where do you park your car when you go to the shops or something?

can anyone assist with quick diagnosis or relay location of the Parktronic relay or fuse. Im trying to isolate what the problem with the Parktronic could poss be. no power to the unit whatsoever, thinking it could be the relay.
is there only one or several the entire N10/2 unit seems in good condition. question is which relay/s and fuses are for the Parktronic?
pic or diagram for a dummy like me would be great!

Julius

Thought you checked fuse https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ml#post6304841 – f3 @ rear SAM (located behind left trunk panel) http://workshop-manuals.com/mercedes...ion/page_5063/
If fuse is fine check control unit http://workshop-manuals.com/mercedes...ontrol_module/
If all looks fine, have someone with MB DAS check for fault codes.

I apologize for bringing up this old thread. I had a similar issue with my vehicle recently; the Mercedes Parking Assist is not working properly, as I thoroughly checked the issue, I found out that I had a bad grounding issue in the system, I perfectly tight the grounding points to fix the issue. I came across an in-depth article that may be worth reading. Search for "Troubleshooting Mercedes Parking Sensor Parktronic Problems on YOUCANIC" and you will see an article that goes over common causes and possible fixes. You can read about it yourself. I hope this information can assist someone else with a similar issue.
