Hi Guys,

Hope you can help, I have a 2004 E500 with a 7 speed gearbox, which is playing up and getting worse... The car has never been thrashed, and has only done 40,000miles, so there is no excuse...

It doesnt seem to want to change gears in either C or S mode, even when Manual mode is engaged it ignores my commands. Today it seemed to be stuck in 3rd gear and was pulling 4000rpm at 40mph, tried to floor it and it didnt kick down, took my foot off the throttle and it didnt shift up...

Whats up with it?????

Anyway to be sure? and where do I find it on the car? whats the part number if you know and lastly can I buy it second hand (ebay) or does it have to be new?

Are you sure this is the 7 speed? I wasn't aware it was in 04 211s (perhaps in europe?)

 

Yep, definitly (we get Euro cars here in Australia)... but at the moment its a single speed

 

It's under the passenger side floor rug - behind the firewall. It's definitely bad if there is any oil around it, but i think that issue was resolved in the pre-2000 E class. You need to diagnose with SDS. I think that you have to buy it programmed with your VIN# so i don't know if buying on off ebay will work - unless you can reprogram with your VIN#.
