Rain sensing wipers clarification
I'm just trying to clarify the operation of the rain sensing wipers... When the wiper is set to the first setting (which is what I normally use) the wipers do a pretty good job of clearing rain by operating faster or slower based on the amount of rain. It was raining today so I left the car outside when I went in for a meeting. The car was turned off with the wiper in the first setting but when I got back in the car and started to drive, the wiper wouldn't operate with the rain sensor though the switch is set to setting one. When I manually switched the wipers off and then set it back to setting one, the rain sensing wiper setting began to work again. Is this normal?
Would be nice if I leave the car with the wiper setting set to setting 1, and I get back in the car and drive it clears the rain again. Or is this a safety thing to make sure you don't inadvertently start driving with the rain sensor active and have any issues going through a car wash or something silly like that?

I am sure others will chime in, but I can leave mine in the first position indefinitely and the wipers will work when it rains. I do not have to turn the wiper switch off then on again.

When you start these cars, occaisionally when they "boot up", "the computers" don't pick up or load the setting of every single item that was in use when the car was shut down. Its a random thing, could affect almost anything and happens only very rarely. I doubt you could demonstrate this experience for any service tech... although they'd believe you.

Barry is right and I occasionally have the same issue you have described where the wiper does not understand that it has been left in the "on" position after startup. I will need to turn it off and then back on as you have said. Doesn't happen every time, but enough that I know if the wipers don't start wiping right away that I will have to reset them. Just another quirk

I've had that happen but once I start driving and the water starts moving over the rain sensor, it starts going again.
Btw, I believe the manual says not to leave your wipers on setting 1 when it isn't raining. I've heard of them running driving through bridges and what not .. and dry windshield is probably not good for your wiper.
Plus I live in SoCal, 300+ days of sunshine, so its not a huge inconvenience to leave them off.

I used to leave mine in the 1st position all the time, but I read somewhere that it was bad to do that.(don't know why) since then, I've noticed that they have become less sensitive to the rain and have to either hit the manual button or use the 2nd position which is usually too fast. Anyone know of a fix or is there a sensitivity setting somewhere?

I would not leave it in the rain sensing/on setting because sooner or later I am going to forget to turn it off and it is going to create complications at a car wash ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Would have been funny if I took it to the dealer and I looked like an idiot because the wipers turn on normally when I restart the car at the dealer

What is the code of the rain sensing wipers from vin decoder?
I use rain, which makes me use my wipers once every few seconds, as the water doesn't stand on the windshield anyway.
Thank You

I leave mine in "wipe when it rains"
I never use the "ride and watch" car washes so never a problem.
Every now and then going under a bridge or when a tree shadow goes by they will do a wipe.
They have always worked when rain appears.
I just went and visited Buffalo NY. My rental had good old fashioned "turn them on and adjust the interval manually" wipers. You don't appreciate these rain senors until you are constantly fiddling with the stalk on a Kia.
