A little urgeny help needed (oil change)
So my wife went to Jiffy Lube to get an oil change, (which I told her was a bad idea should have gone to MB).. Anyways they change the oil and filled it with 8.5 quarts of full synthetic oil not sure one, which ever showed in their system, now is that not to much, the dipstick is over the Max line ?
Now when she left and the car got hot, it got covered in smoke from the engine and she had to pull over as there was a trail of smoke behind her!! Now I went down and meet her and there was quite a bit of oil around the oil-cap area but after a while is stopped smoking almost like it burned off..
The car is now fine there is a little smell of burned oil every now and then, the car drives fine there is no warning lights etc. Could this have been caused by them missing the oil fill hole and by accident have spilled oil down along the engine over the manifold causing it to burn off ???
Should I take it in right away or should it be ok???

in typical jiffy lube style they most likely spilled oil down in your engine compartment and didn't bother to clean it up or tell you about it. no big deal.. .just annoying.

that's what i'm thinking but I just want to be sure as it was pretty WILD!! never seen it before like that... I my self did it by accident once and it smelled a little burned but nothing like this..
But 8.5 Quarts isn't that to much I thought it was a 5 quart max?

I cleaned it off a bit but like you said it's annoying!! i'm still a bit worried if something has blown, but surely warring light would have been all over the dash in that case?

8.5 is right, but you NEED TO KNOW what oil they put in. If it doesn't match one of the 229.5 spec oils in your owner's manual, I'd get it out, PRONTO!
Mobil1 0/40 European Formula is what your car came with and what should go back in.

Not all synthetics are ok to run in these cars. Mercedes-Benz only approves 229.5 oils for their gasonline engines. They very well could've put in the correct stuff. But ask yourself this: Would you feel comfortable not knowing? These are the very same people that couldn't even fill the car without spilling it down your valve covers and on to your exhaust manifolds. How many times a day do they do that, and couldn't even get THAT right?
You should also only use the Mercedes (MANN) fleece oil filter too. I can show you a picture of what happens when you don't.

It takes less than 30 seconds to find out. The oil filter assembly is right on top of the engine. It only needs to be loosened and lifted out to see what filter they put in.

Pennzoil Synthetic European Formulation 5W-40
But check your owner's manual for sure. It's a long list, that I haven't memorized.
As for your filter, I can't find that filter's part# number anywhere. Honestly, I'd pop that out and put in an OEM one at your earliest convenience.
Don't want to alarm you but here's a non OEM filter:

That is the oil filter assembly. Loosen that, and out comes a long stalk, with the filter. The filter will take some pressure to slide it off the stalk, but it's not hard. There's also 4 graduated rubber o-rings, that will come with the new filter. Replace those too.
Peice of cake. There's actually a DIY thread in here with pics, that you can search for.

Thank you so much for all the help, a little more at ease now. Going to have a look at the oil filter tomorrow, if it is a fleece filter can I put it back in place or do i need to change the O ring?
Thinking if Jiffy Lube is open on Sundays I'll go talk to them about the service provided.

Personally, if it's not a MANN, or come from the dealer, I'd replace it. But I'm cookoo when it comes to vehicle maintenance.

These are the same people who refuse to service SAABs
because their workers used to split the whole engine sump / transaxle case wide open by tightening the drain plug with an air wrench, and they blamed the cars and tried to refuse to cover several thousand dollars in damages.

So I went back to Jiffy Lube, they were nice about the whole situation and they gave me the money back, even though they put in the right oil and filter as the manager said they should not have a car leave with that amount of oil in the engine compartment.
So now I think the next step is to go to MB and have them do a proper oil change and make sure that they didn't do any damages!
Thank you all for the help. FYI NEVER USE JIFFY LUBE!!!!!!!! lesson learned

the last time i went to jiffy lube was years ago when they spilled a bunch of oil in my engine compartment and didn't clean it up. my car smoked for 2 weeks before i had a chance to get underneath and really clean it up.
of course at first i thought something was really wrong with the car just like you. ever since then i change my own oil in all of my vehicles.

The dealer charges $100-125 for an oil change, and you can do it yourself for about $60.00, if you can find the oil on sale. Right now, and for the month of March, Napa has Mobil1 0/40 European Formula for $5.29 a quart. I went ahead and purchased 18 qts. A few months ago, AutoZone had it on sale and I stocked up then too with another 36 qts. I should be good for this calendar year. Maybe......
And here's the fluid extractor. It holds 8.0L which is just big enough to hold all the oil in your crankcase.

Been going through this recently just trying to buy a fleece media oil filter. According the dealer (the filters that they pulled from their parts shelf) the fleece media filters are not available even though the oil cap says it requires fleece. If anyone has the correct part #, that would be great as the part # for my car came back with a paper filter. Thanks.
