Uhhh..

Call me dense, but how is getting a 4-car (star) rating on this article not being 'so good'. They clearly liked the new 5 and said that if it was ordered with the right options it would be a great ride and that it has a few quirks.

If you wanna talk quirks, my E has plenty.

Just because this is a MB forum doesn't mean we will automatically diss anything that comes out of Bavaria. We are enthusiasts first. And to quote the article, the 5 is still a 'drivers car'. In fact, I am seriously considering the new 545i because I have no intention of keeping my E based on how MBUSA dealt with the Nav fiasco.

The previous 5 series was an outstanding car (like the previous E-Class). As such, a tough act to follow. It will probably have many of the same new model year issues as the new E class.

The real fun / opinions / debates will happen when the first comparision test comes out!!

It is WAY too early to start drawing conclusions about the new 5, especially with the new technology being introduced, im not much of a bmw fan, but ill have to say they have more driver involvement and im really impressed by their new variable steering thingy, as with keyless go and the hk system these things will have bugs for a year or so, i hear the new 5 has an optional feature were the rear lights give a brighter or more intense light on emergency braking, really impressive.

hmmm....

what i was trying to say was that 4car.co.uk didnt say the new 5 beats the E class. first test drives of the 5er isnt as positive as the new E class. if you go to the website and read the e class test review then it is clearly visible that the E class received a much better review then the 5er. obviously we will have to wait for the comparisons but i was just trying to point out first test drive points of the 5er e.g. the comment abt not being able to get a superb driving position etc.
AND before I placed our order on the E320 cdi i did wait for the 5er pics to come through. i actually think that the 5 series lights from the front look nice. the rear end is okaaaaay but any diagnol views or side views make the look ugly!!!
im sure the 5er will be a great drive and at the end of it it just comes down to which 1 you prefer.....personally i think ppl will like the E more.....but thats just my opnion......

looking at the lights stick out on the side view of the 5er makes it look ugly........the back of it is growing on me......but i just cant stand the side view......the straightness (if thts a word) of the side is too much......but then u get a line sticking out......sorry.....No can do :P i prefer the curves of the E
and i think u cant let a car grow on you coz then when other ppl see it, it has to grow on them as well........it just has to be love at first sight where every one sees it and says wow!
also i have read a few comments on bimmer.org that the car interior feels a bit cheap......this was also said in the auto car preview of the 5! and if u do talk about interior i think everyone agrees......even on the bmw msg boards that the e class interior is much better!

And a question........BMW says the active sterring wheel thingy is the first ever car to have a speed sensitive wheel (somet like tht) isnt the active steering wheel same as MB's Parameter steering????

2 pics posted below.......front looks nice but the side/rear....
