Mercedes E class
tire size
i have 4 matic mercedes E. Today i found these rims for a really good price. the rims are 245/45/18. based on tire rack if i want to put 18 inches this is what the specs should be 245/40/18. Now, the guy who was installing for me he told me that i should not go with 45 because it is not good for my car's transmission. So i m noob at these things. what do you guys suggest should i get them or not.

thanks for the reply.
no, i am not running staggered. all 4 tires are 245/45/18.
alright, basically he checked at tirerack.com and there its written that if you put 18s in my car(2004 mercedes E320 4matic) then it should have profile of 40. And he said that it will some how ruin my 4 matic system in the car and the transmission as well. So i wanted to ask experts here at forum before going with the rims.

i wouldnt put 245/45/18...make the wheels loook tiny and wont look good......if it was staggered, would mess with tranny but not tires.

The 245 45 18 are a taller (meaning larger diameter) tire than the stock size. The 245 40 18 is close to be spot on with the stock size. The 245 45 18 (as long as you use them on all 4 corners) will not hurt your 4matic or trans. But since they are taller, your speedo will be off a few MPH - reading 3.8% too slow. When your speed0 says your doing 60 you're really doing 62 MPH
